BRAZIL

FLU is a Brazilian bass & guitar player and a composer highly appreciated amongst the independent rock scene of his country. His breakthru came in 1986 in Porto Alegre (home of the World Social Forum), when he joined De Falla, which soon became one of the most influential Brazilian rock bands. With De Falla FLU (at the time signing as Flávio Santos) recorded six albums and toured throughout Brazil playing in big rock festivals, like Hollywood Rock'93, sharing the stage with Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Nirvana among others. In 1999, after leaving De Falla, FLU has released by Trama Records (probably the most prestigious Brazilian label for contemporary pop music then) his first solo album: "E a Alegria Continua". With this album FLU mixed electronica, bossa nova and psychedelic rock, achieving very favourable critics even in biggest daily newspapers of his country, touring through many capitals. In 2001 FLU had two of his songs included in the album Comp, a compilation by the independent label Muquifo Records. In 2002 another of his songs was selected for the compilation National Collection by the hip-hop label Instituto/YB. In 2003, FLU released his second solo album, No Flu do Mundo, by Instituto/YB and distributed by Trama Records. Remixing songs with traditional brazilian musicians, FLU also created soundtracks for movies, including for the world hit City of God. FLU also took part in the Projeto Pixinguinha, the oldest of its kind, a collective of the most important Brazilian musicians in activity (including legends like Tom Zé), which tours yearly through many dozens of medium sized cities in all regions of Brazil. His latest album, Flu Rocks, was released in december 2012, presenting mostly instrumental rock songs. It blends the very energy of his artistical roots (American rock'n'roll) with a sense of rhythm he collected along the deepest sources of Brazilian genuine musicality.
